Sebastian turns 1!!

Here's our little guy 1 year ago......

And here he is now!!

Sebastian turned 1 year old on Friday, Sept 10th. I was so glad Maryls was in town to help do the cake. Or, I should say, cakes....more on that later!

We had a small party with dinner, presents, and cake with homemade ice cream...one of Wes's specialties! Sebastian really got in to opening his presents with a little starter help from his cousin, Will. He found some money in a card, and played with it for a minute, until he saw the toy!

Here's Erin and Grace enjoying some cake.
Marlys and I made a little two-tiered chocolate cake for Sebastian. I decorated it with green and yellow...our John Deere theme. He really wasn't sure why there were so many people at our house staring at him, and the "Happy Birthday" song really had him bewildered! Then, I gave him his cake, and he wasn't sure what to do! He looked at it, poked it, and then picked off the little yellow frosting dots and ate them one at a time! It was hilarious. Everyone was waiting for him to dig in, and after about 5 minutes, all he'd eaten were a few frosting dots! So I pulled a little section off so he could taste the cake, and that got him going...

It was still the neatest 1st birthday cake eating I've ever seen! This is the 2nd cake. It was the leftover batter from Sebastian's cake. We were going to decorate the 3rd cake which was for the adults, but we couldn't get it out of the pan, so we decorated this cake for Will, Xander, and Grace to eat. They each wanted a piece from where the tractor was! Chocolate frosting! The 3rd cake was a chocolate cake with coffee in it from the Barefoot Contessa. It was so moist it wouldn't come out of the pan, so we just left it in there! Then, my mom showed up with a Carrot Cake, which I wanted her to make for my birthday...but didn't know she was bringing that night! So that was 4 cakes! They were all very yummy...but we have a lot of leftovers. I brought the big chocolate cake to work, and once they finish that off, I'm bringing the next one!

So, happy birthday, Sebastian. I can't believe a year has already passed. Wasn't I just pregnant? I decided to watch the video of Sebastian from his first year. That's when I realized it really has been a whole year! That first six months were soooo long! It was at least 3 months of no sleep with his tummy problems. When you are actually awake all day and night, time really drags on. So maybe it does feel like a year! Well, we wouldn't trade it for the world. We have the happiest kid on the block. He's always smiling and laughing, and is pretty easy going. I think that's our reward for those first 6 months! Thanks for checking in on us and our big boy!
