We had a great vacation in Colorado in July. I’m just now getting around to posting because we moved the office at the beginning of July, then it was my brother Nick’s wedding, and then we left right after that for vacation! So it’s been really busy. We decided to get away from the Nebraska heat and head up into the mountains. Wes was in Washington state for work, so we decided I’d pick him up at the airport in Denver on his way back and head to the mountains. My mom decided to ride along with me to Denver so she could visit our friends the Hiners. It was a huge help having her along with Sebastian for that long drive.
So we got to Denver and stayed with our good friends Dave and Joanna. They came up to the mountains with us. We rented a house on a private lake just on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, and just north of Grand Lake. One of my favorite vacations when I was a kid was at Grand Lake Lodge, so I was excited to go back. We drove through Rocky Mountain National on Trail Ridge Road. It was so beautiful with all the wild flowers in bloom!
Our house was nice. It had three bedrooms which was awesome…Sebastian had his own room so we all got some good sleep! It was a log cabin, so it felt very cozy. It was really cool in the evenings, like in the 40’s, and during the day only in the 70’s. Loved it! Meanwhile in Lincoln it was like 105 or something crazy. There were lots of wild animals. We saw elk, moose, ducks, chipmunks, and the neighbors that live there year round have horses and llamas which Sebastian loved! We went took Sebastian on a canoe ride…he wasn’t quite sure what to think, but he loved fishing! He just wanted to reel his pole in, so he never let his bobber sit out in the water for more than 20 seconds. We did catch some trout that we had for dinner, and it was delicious.
One day we went into Grand Lake and did the old time photographs with Dave and Joanna. So funny! Sebastian was not a fan of getting stuffed into a little cowboy outfit, but he had the serious face down perfectly!!
It was nice to decompress for a few days and have some time to relax. One afternoon it rained and rained. Sebastian took a long nap, and Wes and I just sat outside and enjoyed listening to the rain and enjoyed the mountains. It was perfect! Maybe not our most action packed vacation, but it was really fun and relaxing!
Now back to the grind. Sebastian started a new daycare in Hickman that’s closer for Wes to pick him up now that I’ll be starting school in a couple of weeks. Here we go!
Sebastian is talking a ton, and he is putting words together for little sentences. We were reading a book, and for each animal I asked him to say the name and asked him what sound it makes. He has a little stick pony, and when he rides it around, I say “Giddy-up!” When we got to the picture of the horse, he said “horse”, and when I asked him what a horse says, he said “Gee-up, gee-up!” It was so cute!
