Dirt and chickens

There are so many reasons for little boys to love Spring.  Eating dirt, chasing chickens, riding 4-wheelers, playing with bugs, getting dirty.  And these are all things Sebastian has been enjoying!  Over the weekend, while it was so nice out, we spent some time outside playing.  It was great to get him outside….he’d been having a rough week inside.  His new fun game was to throw balls and toys over the gate down the stairs, and then holler until Wes or I went down and fetched all the toys for him, at which point, of course, he’d throw them back downstairs again.  Well, I had opened the gate to go down and get the toys, and Sebastian decided to help.  He usually turns around and goes down backwards on his knees, but he’s been getting brave on small steps outside, so I guess he decided to step down the first step.  He made it, but I think it was farther down than he was expecting, and he lost his balance.  I turned just in time to see him tumble the first couple of steps.  I caught him mid-tumble.  He has a little bruise on his forehead, and he was really scared.  He cried…whimpered, really…for about 15 minutes.  Then we went outside and played and he was fine.  Now if the gate is open, he jibber jabbers at me and points at it and backs away!  I’ll say, “go close the gate” and he’ll run over and slam it closed.  Phew, close call!

He loves to ride in the Big Red, or with our neighbor Gale on his 4-wheeler.  As soon as we go outside, he runs over to the building and wants a ride.  He likes to drive and go fast…great, that shows me what’s to come!  Gale has chickens, and he lets them run around his yard, so we took Sebastian over to see the chickens.  He chased them around the yard.  They made laps around the house trying to get away from that kid.  Every time they clucked, he would clap.  So cute!  Sebastian also ate his first hand full of dirt.  He’s a real big boy now!

Poor Jack is always putting up with Sebastian crawling all over him!  Also, his new drum…it’s noisy, and a favorite!
